ABOUT HHN

Healthcare Hospitality Network, Inc. (HHN) is a nationwide professional member association with a mission to support homes that help and heal to be more effective in their service to patients and families.  HHN is made up of House and Affiliate members.  House members provide lodging and support services to patients and their caregivers who are receiving medical treatment far from their home communities while Affiliates are members that support the Healthcare Hospitality Houses in their services to their guests.

HHN is the only professional membership association in North America with the specific mission to provide training, networking, and advocacy specifically for healthcare hospitality houses. Founded in the early 1980s and incorporated in 1986, HHN proudly serves over 100 member houses ranging from small houses to houses with over 100 guest rooms. Affiliate members include Trivers Associates, Non-Profit Software, and Palmetto Linen.

HHN advances Healthcare Hospitality Housing on several fronts:

  • Professional Networking: Hospital Hospitality Houses serve a very unique mission in the healthcare communities that they serve. HHN provides a network for Healthcare Hospitality House employees and volunteers to connect with other professionals across the country serving similar missions and share best practices and support.

  • Training: Providing virtual and in-person training opportunities through our   monthly Ask the Expert webinar series, National and Regional conferences, and Member Forums.

  • Certification: The Certified Hospitality House program which provides members with access to our online learning management system, which contains over 60+ valuable educational courses specifically useful for our industry. This program provides a long-overdue way to distinguish houses which maintain high training standards and follow best practices.
  • Start-up Assistance: Guiding organizations and communities in the early stages of bringing a healthcare hospitality house to the local healthcare systems.
  • Advocacy: Elevating the local missions of Healthcare Hospitality Houses to a national level through HHN and the National Healthcare Hospitality Week celebrated annually in July.
What is a Healthcare Hospitality House?
Healthcare Hospitality Houses (HHH) provide lodging at significantly reduced costs to patients and their caregivers while receiving life saving medical care away from their home communities.  While hotels serve guests traveling for many different reasons including business, holiday, reunions, conferences, and so on, Healthcare Hospitality Houses provide an environment created specifically to support patients and their caregivers dealing with healthcare issues. By creating a welcoming and communal space for those going through similar stressful situations, a sense of community is created where patients and caregivers can support one another. Most Healthcare Hospitality Houses have shared kitchens, common living areas and private bedrooms and bathrooms that create a feeling of a home-away-from-home and a safe place to land each day. Healthcare Hospitality Houses help alleviate the financial burden often associated with medical crises and have shown to reduce stress on both the patient and family members.
